Finally a Blog!

Man, long time no blog. so i thought i should make a short one today. It will mostly consist of pictures, and hopefully i will be able to put up a short video soon too.

If you are not good around blood.. Look away NOW..

Arthur went to pick up some Pigs blood at the slaugher house today. I think they needed to purify the blood to make some fibernecken? 30 bucks, 10 liters i think, hes going to get a total of 10 gallons soon. and this here consist of 11 pigs. there were buckets and buckets.

They tried to pour the extra stuff down the sink and it was so thick it went down slowwwly. It didnt smell TOO bad i guess, but what really smelled really bad was the mixture with bleach. i hate the small of bleach.

IT'S CHOW TIME!

Lunch break at 3pm! Never heard of it before today. Empty stomach growling, but i was surpised that i was still able to work pretty long without feeling the effects of falling on the ground from the lack of energy. Started at around 9, didnt stop working until 3pm. thats 6 HOURS! (thumbs developed some kind of soreness from all the pipetting i been doing all day)GOOOD accomplishment. i was focused, ready to go from the get go. and finally when i finished. it was time to eat my lunch.

wished i had a picture of the Dicty team after doing all those minipreps without food in our stomachs. lets just say.. it wasnt pretty.

Turn off the flame, and then turn it back on!

Man oh man, how does it feel to be on tv today? i actually dont know, i didn't watch the news. However! i was filmed.. i think

The footage they recorded today probably wont be aired right away anyways. Theres all that editing that needs to be done before it can be shown on tv. Its a good thing that theres such thing as editing, if there wasnt, the viewers would find out that Jackie was only pipetting plain 'ol H2O. The footage will probably air either tomorrow or the next day? too bad, we might not be home yet, and we'll also have to miss David's band performance.

As for my part in the filming, i thought it was going to be a lot more. They didnt really interview any of the students, and just walked around to record what we were doing. At the time, eDNA and i were preparing mini-preps, so all we did was put media into each tube. We had to flame everything to make sure the pipettes and bottle were sterile. He asked us to turn off the gas, and then turn it back on a few times. I guess thats really good footage? Fire in the lab!

YOU..MUST..GET.. MARRIED.. in order to say in America

WOW... what a long day at UCSF today. i felt like i have been there forever. It has been the latest i ever stayed at UCSF so far. I didnt leave the building until 8:30ish. The bus shuttle was almost empty on the ride back, only a few people were in it. At least the sky wasnt dark yet =D

It was nice to have a little bit of extra sleep today. We didn't have to arrive there until 10 o clock. I took the 9 o clock shuttle, and still arrived pretty early. It allowed me to have some extra time to just surf the web. Before you know it, we started the work with an overview and simple explaination of what our goals was. I think for the most part, the process is pretty simple. First, we just started by splitting the dicty cells that we had the other day. They were pretty confluent, so we loosend up the cells, threw them out, and added new media to the plates.

At 11:30, we had a CPL meeting. i actually have no idea what CPL stands for, but i can tell you that they have food everytime theres a meeting! Today's lunch was indian food. To tell you the truth, i actually never a full indian course before. I have had curry here and there, but todays food was ordered straight from a indian resturant. There was also many variety to choose from. Since i never had a lot of the food, i wanted to try a little bit of everything. The food ended up not being that bad.

The rest of the day was just lab work. we prepared storage vectors to place them into desination vectors. There was a lot of waiting for cells to be ready, incubation time, so while that was happening, i had a chance to actually start in my notebook. i'm proud to say its almost caught up too! i should be caught up by tomorrow!

Thats why its called Hypo-thesis

LAST DAY OF BOOTCAMP!

Man oh man! its already the last day of bootcamp! i'm sure most of us are pretty happy about it. Hopefully that means that we will get to sleep in a little bit more. We first started the day with the question of the day. Today's question was " what is the best thing you can cook?" Cooking as always been a hobby of mine. Even though i dont do it a lot ( thats because i dont really know how besides simple foods) i am always fascinated by cooking. Shows like Hell's Kitchen always keep my eyes glued to the tv screen. i love watching people cook fine-dining style and hope to do some in the future too. We ended the conversation with the explaination of Beer-chicken! it actually sounds pretty cool and i would want to learn how to cook something like that. i might go on july 4th to go check out the competition.

The moment of truth..: our buddies was revealed! OLIVVERRR,(sorry, if you're reading this) haha i'm just excited. i am offically part of the dicty crew and we even have a Igem Dicty Zone. Ryan and allen also share the same buddies. i'm really looking forward to working with everyone. We got together as a crew and reviewd some of the basic info we need to know. Then we proceeded with splitting some of the assigned cells. This part was simple because we handled cells similar to dicty cells before. heres to hoping that they grow well! we'll have to wait until monday to see if they grew or not!
